The dangers of processed foods

We are living in a world of convenience. No longer do we have to prepare foods, it's all done for us. But with convenience, there is a price to pay.

There is a lot of misconception about what processed food is exactly. Anything that is in a package that has an ingredients list is processed. Anything that has been bagged, boxed, or canned is processed.

Processed foods also contain ingredients that are not necessarily food. Some of these ingredients items include colors, bleaches, emulsifiers, preservatives and flavors. Some of these items you wouldn't eat, especially since you don't know what they are.

Another thing that people don't consider is what they are eating. If you don't know what it is or can't pronounce it, then you probably shouldn't eat it. Many processed items contain ingredients that have these long, unpronounceable names; this is because these ingredients are chemicals, not food.

Sometimes additives that are foods aren't listed, as long as they are generally regarded as safe. This means that they only have to state artificial flavor or what the items do. This means you will never know what it is exactly that you are consuming.

One of the ingredients that are added to processed food is sugar. Too much sugar in a food sends your pancreas into a frenzy to produce insulin. Overuse of the pancreas in these cases can cause type 2 Diabetes, which is the result of the huge majority of adults developing Diabetes.

Other ingredients that are added to processed foods have been known, for quite some time, to have carcinogen properties. This means that they cause cancer. However, they have not been outlawed in our foods.

Obesity is a huge problem here in the United States. Processed foods are higher in fats, sugars and salts. The World Health Organization contributes and link processed foods for the ever growing obesity problem.

There has been a huge revelation in regards to Trans fatty-acids. Processed foods are very high in Trans fat and contribute to high cholesterol levels, and in turn contribute to heart disease.

There is a lot that goes into processed foods, some you wouldn't even dream of eating or would cringe when you heard you had eaten it. Some items contain part of animals, even though it says beef or chicken, such as ears, snouts, and many other parts of the body.

Processed foods aren't good. In order to maintain a proper diet free of unneeded ingredients and unwanted effects, choose items that aren't packaged heavily, if at all. This will ensure that you are eating on the best products in a form closest to natural. You body and wellbeing will thank you in the end.
