Miss Conception; A ground-breaking and realistic story, a host of under-rated actors and a plot that had the potential to set the record for 2008. How could they fail? You are about to find out.
Miss Conception follows the story of young girl called Georgina, played by Heather Graham, in her thirties who is given the information by her doctor that she is going to hit menopause early and therefore only has one month of her life left in which to conceive; a mission hard to achieve in its own right for a hard working woman who's boyfriend is not interested in kids.. Georgina has lived her life preparing for the time in which she will have the opportunity to get married and have children, only to learn that she will now have the thing she has been wanting the most in her life snatched away from her in a month's time. She becomes desperate and determined to find someone to love to give her a child before it is too late; and with only a month's deadline, she, with the help of her friend, begins her eventful search for a suitable father-material of a man immediately.
Miss Conception, an appropriately named title also follows an appropriately named scenario. How many women have wanted to get pregnant but have suddenly learned that they are unable to conceive? It is a very strong subject that almost all of us have come into contact with in one way or another. It is a very strong and very meaningful subject that we are all familiar with in some way. However, one thing Miss Conception fails to do as a movie is draw us in to the story and the scenarios presented to us. The story itself is meaningful, but the way it is presented to us is forgetful and does not live up to the potential that it obviously had.
I personally would not class it as a romantic story and I would not class it as a comedy. It has very few funny scenes and even fewer romantic scenes and with a story such as the one demonstrated and the fact that it was hyped as a romantic comedy; it had all the potential in the world to be an epic love story and an epic battle to find true love in the short space of a month. It had all the potential in the world, but sadly, it did not live up to what it had the potential to become; an epic success.
While this movie does have its moments and the story is there, the message and the meaning is not. It could have been so much more, and personally, the only way I can see anyone enjoying this movie is as I said at the start, if the story is close to your heart, if you have been through a similar situation or scenario or are close to someone who has. Even then, they fail to put emphasis on the subject at hand giving a movie with so much hype and potential to be one of the best romantic movies of the year into one of the most forgetful movies of the year. I personally would advise you not to waste your time unless you simply want a movie to rival Prom Night as the worst of 2008, which if that is the case, knock yourself out because you may have a winner right here with Miss Conception!
