With ever changing times and genre's, the most popular music ebbs and flows right along with it. Each decade brings to us an incomparable act or a musician that draws us in with music that haunts our souls, or a style that is unique or powerful. Artists come and go, album sales go from being on fire to fizzling out. Fantastic turns into torpor, and albums and Cd's sit on shelves collecting dust until the next generation discovers the greatness of the music. Let's face it, we could argue until we are blue in the face about who the biggest musicians are. We could also debate whether or not album sales of today compare with those of thirty years ago. these days we simply download favorite songs, often forgoing the magic of an entire album choosing instead simply the most popular tracks. Music isn't like it used to be, holding the promise and luminocity that it had in the past. That is one reason alone why the top five highest selling artists of all time spring from the days of glory.
~Beatles.
With Beatle-mania ranging from the UK to the US with a speed likened to superman, it is a no brainer that this group is the largest selling of all time. While I am not personally a fan, I can see the appeal, and I have heard a great amount of their work for someone who grew up in a completely different era. Everyone knows the Beatles, and everyone has at least a song or two of theirs that they enjoy. Their music is unique, and has never been replicated in all of the fifty or so years since their popularity. The tragic death of John Lennon added to the love and mystique of the band. Having sold an estimated one billion records during their tenure in music, the Beatles are considered the top selling artists of all time. George (RIP), Paul, John (RIP), and Ringo will live in infamy, if only in the hearts of millions of loyal fans.
~Bing Crosby.
Each Christmas you gather round the tree and sing along to the songs made famous by this legendary figure. In fact Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' is credited with selling 100 million albums alone, not counting just the singles that sold in addition to that. Bing is also known for setting the stage for the next big things; Frank Sinatra, and Mr. Dean Martin. He is known for over sixty movie appearances, either in person or in song, and recorded a whopping 44 albums. With a career span of over thirty years, it would be safe to say that Mr. Crosby is quite a legend.
~Elvis.
