Stressed out? Here's how to survive

Effectively coping with stress lies primarily in understanding which factors contribute to stress. The following examples of stressful situations and their proposed solutions may prove useful in not only dealing with stress, but working to eliminating it altogether.

Example 1-Taking on too many responsibilities

Type-A personalities are the ones who are likely to feel stressed from too many activities. They have great difficultly saying no to any request, large or small. They feel a great sense of obligation to not only do everything, but to do everything well. Reassess your capabilities and be able to say "No" to anything that pushes you over your tolerance limit. In order to cut back on stress with the projects you are already involved in, learn to delegate. Asking for help doesn't mean you are inadequate; it means you're a reasonable human being.

Example 2-Anxiety or social pressure

Introverts in particular feel stressed in social situations, especially if it involves a lot of people or people they don't know very well.
Don't force yourself to be in places that make you uncomfortable. For those truly unavoidable social obligations (like family holiday gatherings) do something small to make yourself more comfortable. For example, wear a favorite shirt or blouse.

Example 3-Less than perfect health

Times of illness not only put stress on the body, but on the mind as well. Being unable to carry out normal every-day activities can make a person feel frustrated.
Understand that worrying about health only causes more problems. Give yourself permission to rest up.
