If you have plenty of belongings you no-longer need or want organizing a yard or garage sale can be a great way of recycling them, as-well as earning extra money at the same time.
Start by gathering items to sell and evaluating them in terms of value and saleability. Some will be more sort after than others. These are the ones with which you can expect to make the most profit.
Other items may be of less value, making you feel more comfortable to let them go at a small price so you can regain space and free your home from clutter.
If you are unsure of the value of items, but suspect some may be worth a decent amount of money, it’s worth having them evaluated by a professional before sticking a price label on them.
Placing a price label on items can help shy potential buyers realise whether they can afford them, rather than giving them opportunity to slink away leaving behind a potential bargain for you to have to try to sell to another customer.
You may wish to use labels as a guide to remind you what items are worth, but still allow haggling for fun and to give you a better chance of making a sale.
If you have unusual or specialist items you can do very well by making sure you recognize the potential market and let it be known in advance what you have available and when you will be holding a sale.
If specialist buyers seem keen there’s nothing to stop you from making them feel important by giving them a private viewing of items before other customers arrive and seeing if you can bag a great deal. This way, if they don't offer what you want you still have other possible buyers waiting.
Even if you don't have collectible items or antiques you can still let others know you are to hold a sale, being sure to mention where and when it will take place. Very often post offices, local shops and supermarkets will all be willing to place a poster on their boards or windows to advertise your event, either for free or for a very small fee.
Place posters on your car windows when stationary so that passers by can read about your sale and prepare to attend. You can also leave a poster in home window if in a place of prominence where others are likely to look.
Some local newspapers provide space for free advertisements where you can announce to readers your intention of a sale, and if you will be holding a particularly large sale you may benefit from dropping leaflets through doors in areas you think potential buyers may be. Potential buyers will be people who live
