All is well: A look at the problems facing Mormonism

various standards are discussed. Choices of music, recreation, friends, wardrobe, and other things are clearly outlined for the young people of the church. Earrings for sisters should be of a modest nature, not hanging and overly noticeable, and only one piercing is appropriate. Young men should refrain from wearing hair at immodest lengths and never should have their ears pierced. Women in the church that do have multiple piercings and wear large hoop earrings are seen as not obedient to the church, their faith is put at issue over a piece of jewelry. White shirts are a requirement for young men to pass the sacrament, all men must wear ties as if a tie makes a man more worthy. Those that do not adhere to these standards are seen as less worthy, less spiritual, and are not respected by the members at large.

Women in the church are expected to marry and have a family. The single parent family is seen as less valuable and little real support is offered to those in this position. Church calenders are regularly marked with a "date night" for the couples of the church, further stinging those who are raising children alone. The worst part of this for singles is the lack of temple covenants for these people. While a single parent is allowed to obtain their endowments, the children cannot be "sealed" to their parent. This is fodder for alienation from adults and children alike.

Self sufficiency is a buzz word in the church, receiving any assistance from Government agencies is frowned upon by leadership at all levels. Tithing 10% of income from the same agencies is expected however. The
