Poetry: On love

by Luis Medel

Created on: July 07, 2008

With fingers boasting flesh to bone
skin; broken dried and cracked
the mind in wrecks like a hurricane's fury
the heart is heavy and weak
the body rough and dry
the soul in desperation
a meal to satisfy this aching body
water to quench such severed thirst
yet no morsel of food or drop of water can satisfy the hunger
as if food turns to ash with every chew
and water turns to sand in its very glass
and with each beat slowly fading
from this body bound to dust
not food, nor water i crave
its your touch
your body
your skin
your smile

or the hunger shall rage still
a drop of water or an entire ocean can make no difference
mountains of bread could never satisfy this fevered belly
or a stranger's cold embrace or wicked dance
nothing of the sort could bring me satisfaction
i could live without for a thousand lifetimes
their existence might as well be nothingness
forsake all these things
but never your love
for I would starve to death.
