Top 5 tips for scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is an opportunity to explore your creative side and preserve family photos and memories. One of the most wonderful things about scrapbooking your family albums is that you can save not only photos but keepsakes that are able to lay flat in your scrapbook and you are able to display them for all to see and enjoy. Another great thing about scrapbooking is that it is a hobby that you can continue to learn from and excel in. You can take classes and improve your skills these five tips are offered for those who are just starting out and may be new to the world of scrapbooking.

1. Do not start cropping and cutting your photos without taking a beginners class. One of the many mistakes that new scrapbookers make is cutting photos with the wrong tools and without the knowledge of some tips from those who have been at it longer. Find a local scrapbook store in your city or town that offers beginners classes. They are often low in cost and can give you useful tips for starting such as what adhesives to use, what to use to make better and straighter cuts, and introduce you to some of the products that are out there.

2. Be aware of what supplies are on sale throughout your town or city where you live. Scrapbooking can be a rather expensive hobby and if money is an issue you can still create fabulous books without spending a lot of money. Many scrapbook stores in most areas have frequent sales as well as larger chain stores such as Michael's and Hobby Lobby often have discount items or bi-weekly sales on their scrabook supplies.

3. Don't be afraid to ask around for tips on the best products. Many who have been scrapbooking for awhile have found adhesives or other tools to be their favorite. As them what they use. You will never know what is out there until you ask what others are using that have fabulous pages.

4. Subscribe to a scrapbook magazine on an ongoing basis or for a year or more. Often times when you are a new scrapper you may not have an idea of how to think of different layouts that can not only challenge you but make your scrapbook look fabulous. Several magazines and books that are out on the market can give you fresh new ideas and show you products that are out there. Memory Makers is one of my favorite magazines that I have used. I keep them on hand to use whenever I am out of ideas.

5. Find a scrapbook buddy! Scrapping can always be more funds with friends around. Start a scrapbook club where you can trade paper or a friend who likes coffee and a chat while you are scrapbooking. This way you can not only have someone to encourage your creativity but some one to toss around ideas with as well and to spur you on to finish your book if you are having trouble pressing on through it.

Scrapbooking can be endless fun as well as a great way to always remember family and friends. Enjoy!
