Martians vs. Robots:
Score 2/5

As an avid fan of both science fiction and space flight I had looked forward to experiencing both in a fast paced and challenging game play setting. Unfortunately Martians vs. Robots was an unexpected let down. Maybe with some much needed improvements this game will avoid a quick trip to the returns counter.

As the captain of a space ship set in deep space you are faced with the challenge of protecting your vessel from small rogue asteroids set on a collision course from nowhere, other space ships bent on your destruction and rockets launched from passing moons. Wish I could tell you more but there really isn't anything more I can tell you given there is no storyline or even a hint to why you are facing such tribulations.

The background music was a flash back to arcade games created in the seventies and only a step up from today's current elevator music. In-game sounds were not much better as they mimicked the outdated beeps and bops from the long gone days of Pong. Game controls are relatively easy to understand since the only thing you will need to control your ship is your computers mouse and its left button and don't expect to be over worked in that regard either, since your ship only spins in circles.

When it comes to creativity this game appears to be the first attempt by a student at a gaming college trying to impress his/her professor with flash rather than substance. In that respect the student may do well but this game has no place on a PC or gaming consul. If this game has any place on the market it would be in the cell phone gaming community with other simplistic games such as Pac Man or Space Invaders.

The only thing this game has going for it is its overly bland yet moderately good graphics. If only the game allowed more user interface rather than button mashing simplicity it would be an entertaining way of passing time.

Unfortunately, given its current state this game will be better of floating in space rather than fighting in it.
