Cruising is a great value for many reasons: it erases vacation stress; is relaxing as well as fun; takes cares of all your needs onboard and off, and offers more than just the usual vacation fare.
For stress, just think of everything one would have to plan for: places to stay and for how long; things to see, and how much they would cost per person; whether to pack for bad weather; where to eat; any special things worth doing/seeing, entertainment, or road trips. And there may be other stresses as well, depending on one's circumstances.
Well, cruises include everything. All one has to do is choose the cruise line, vacation date, price range, and go. Having been on multiple cruises myself, I advise one to look into the cruise line closest to where [s]he lives, or has the greatest interest in its destinations.
For example, Disney cruises are all about kid fun; Princess in on the West Coast, and goes to Alaska. NCL is great for laid-back seniors, and Carnival is a line that caters to all who want to have fun, no matter what their ages.
However, another good suggestion is to inquire as to whether the line is smoke free, or has handicap services for wheelchairs, etc if one needs them. Why worry when online research can give you answers?
Again, I have favorite choices. I like Carnival because of its variety. I have seen everything from stand-up comics to lounge-time Karaoke [where I even sang], to playing Bingo, and shopping onboard.
And one need not lie around eating and doing nothing. Because Carnival Cruise [check out others if needed], has a spa with massages and other niceties. A running track and even a gym.
Another value of cruising is not wondering where one will stay, for how long, and where. All that is obviously all-inclusive. A person can choose when to eat [formal and casual dining], or where [informal], how much, and when. Also, what things to do onboard, and what shore tours to take, if any.
The interesting thing about tours is that they vary by price, difficulty [say an inexperienced hiker as opposed to a pro]; amount of time designated, and whether or not it is something a handicapped person can do. For example, a person who's had a heart attack should avoid zip-lining through jungle vegetation. That is one of the harder, more advanced shore tours. For kids, I recommend looking into milder activities, like snorkeling, or visiting with dolphins.
I have seen the ancient fort of Puerto Rico, been on a sunset cruise, seen where part of the "The Firm" was filmed,
