When I made the decision to work from home I did what many people do. I googled. What a huge mistake for me to make! I was inundated with spams and ripoffs. I found the grand old dame of work at home sites WAHM.com and began to dig. But however, I could easy manuever that site. I began to read about other sites and I bounced from here to there and searched and dug for jobs.
Finally I found my first major job working from home and lo and behold it was from a google search. I stayed at this job for nearly a year and I must say it was one of the most miserable experiences I have ever had in a job. I could have stayed for the money but that would have likened me to nearly prostituting myself for money.
More job sites came on my radar - Flexjobs in particular was a favorite but normally had jobs that were not in my area of expertise. Finally I decided after resigning from my WAHJ that the best solution I could make was to just do what I normally did. Take it upon myself. This attitude has lead me to most of my home based endeavors going back to the early 90's. I jumped headlong one morning in March to find a free hosting site and within minutes I had a site.
I was almost dizzy trying to cram as much content in during that weekend to make my job search site a reality. It has evolved, changed, grown and shrunk as I worked out in my mind what I wanted it to be. I realized that more and more non phone job leads were what people wanted. I began to search hard for small freelance positions that would allow me to continue to work on the site and be able to add more jobs for people to search.
By trying to customize the site and add in specific categories such as texting, sales, telemarketing, transcription, phone jobs, court researcher, photography and more, I truly felt that more and more individuals would be able to find and address the niche that they wanted and needed to work in. The key issue with many WAH jobs and search engines is that they tend to limit individuals to just three categories - customer service, computers and sales. There is certainly more to jobs than that.
I am finally happy that I think I know what I wanted in job search site and I built it myself to meet my needs and the needs of my friends. The feedback for the Work At Home Mafia has been absolutely incredible. This has given me such a sense of accomplishment and I truly feel that I am helping others by creating this job search site.
