Telling your parents that you are expecting can be a challenging event. Depending upon your family relations you can gauge how to tell them. Keep in mind when you do tell them you should expect tears from your mother and congratulations from your father although he may want to pound the life out of your significant other if you are a young woman. Dads do not like to know that their daughters are having sex.
Assuming your family relationships are in good standing there are several ways you can go about telling your parents of this blessing. Get creative and come up with ways that you can tell them that would be fun for the whole family. Surprise announcements are great for this.
Here are four of the best ways you can tell your parents of your baby to be:
1- Get a card for your mom's birthday or an event that is near the date you wish to announce the pregnancy. On this card write your well wishes and then sign it with "your soon to be granddaughter or grandson". It may take a moment for your mom to figure this out as she gives you a quizzical glance. When she does this nod your head and tell her the due date. This will be a pleasant experience for all involved.
2- Throw a surprise party with baby images, tiny hand and foot prints as the theme. If the dcor does not make them think of what you want to convey you may just have to come right out and say it!
3- If your parents are somber then speak to them privately in their home. They will be pleased to hear the news from your lips. Again, Moms will cry. It is in the blood that when their son's and daughter's grow up it makes mom's tearful. These are a mixture of sad and happy tears. Do not be shocked by them.
4- A public place is another great way to tell your parents that you are expecting. Take them out to dinner in a nice restaurant. Order a bottle of sparkling cider and make a toast to your parents with the announcement. This way of telling your parents should only be done if you are ready to tell the world that you are expecting. Proud parents often clap loudly and will tell everyone the news including the wait staff, neighboring tables and anyone who passes by.
Do not be afraid to tell your parents that you are expecting. You should never fear what your parents will say. Just remember they had to tell their parents once upon a time when they were expecting you! Having a baby is a special and wonderous event. Your parents will be embarking on a new quest just as you will be. This time should be special for everyone involved so make the announcement with love, fun and creativity.
