They're Playing Our Song: Picking the Perfect Tune for Your First Dance
You only get one first dance on your wedding night and you'll want to remember the song you danced to forever. With so many romantic songs out there it may be hard to narrow down which one tells your love story. Here are some suggestions for picking a song that you, your spouse, and all of your wedding guests will remember:
Chose a Song from Your Favorite Movie: Re-watch you and your fiance's favorite movie and see if there is a song that is particularly memorable. If there is no main theme song to the film, check out the soundtrack for some hidden gems.
Some Wonderful Love Songs from Films Include:
-As Time Goes By (Casablanca) -(I've Had) The Time of My Life (Dirty Dancing) -Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)-(Arthur) -Isn't It Romantic? (Love Me Tonight) -Some Enchanted Evening (South Pacific) -Evergreen (A Star is Born) -Moon River (Breakfast at Tiffany's) -What Are You Doing The Rest of Your Life(The Happy Ending) -The Way You Look Tonight (Swing Time) -You'd Be So Nice to Come Home to (Something to Shout About) -Take My Breath Away (Top Gun) -A Whole New World (Aladdin) -Can You Feel the Love Tonight (The Lion King)
- Choose a song that brings back a significant memory to you as a couple: Think about some of the most romantic moments you and your fiance shared, concerts you attended, songs you danced to, etc. If you have a song with particular significance it could be the perfect choice for your first dance.
-If you feel there is no song or words to best describe your relationship, consider an instrumental tune. From classical to swing there are a number of songs so powerful that lyrics were not needed. Choose a romantic waltz for something classic and traditional. If you want a song outside of the box, choose one with a more upbeat tempo. If you and your fiance can cut a rug, you will never have a better moment to show your stuff. Either way you first dance is guaranteed to be memorable. Some wonderful instrumental choices include:
-Vienna Life (Strauss)
-Waltz in a Flat (Brahms)
-Hungarian Dances (Brahms)
-Waltz from My Fair Lady
-Waltz from The Godfather
-Fur Elise (Beethoven)
-Sing, Sing, Sing (Benny Goodman)
-In the Mood (Glenn Miller)
Whatever song you choose, make sure that it is meaningful to both of you.
