GAMEPLAY: 3/5
The gameplay in Spring Up is simple, yet addicting. Your goal is to match up bricks or balls of the same color causing them to fall. The twist is that you don't need several consecutive colors to make them fall. Rather, you just need two of the same colors to bump to send them tumbling down.
It's captivating the first few times, seeing all the balls rush down as you scramble to catch them in a bin at the bottom for additional points. You get sucked in trying to set up the perfect shot, trying to get the perfect score. Once you've done it a few levels though, it loses its magic. It slowly fades until you just go through the same repetitive motion. Sadly, this game just doesn't have enough going for it to maintain interest too long, which is a shame.
GRAPHICS: 4/5
The graphics in this game are definitely hit or miss. They host vibrant colors that focus more on an artsy style over realistic. Some people will hate, and others will love it. There was something deep in how simple they were. While technically nothing special, they fit the game's tone well, and help it to maintain a happy, up-beat nature.
SOUND: 3/5
The sounds in this game are perfectly average, without much variety. Each sound fits the game well, but there's nothing that really stands out as amazing. The music itself is peaceful, but the track can get irritating after a while. I appreciate the effort that went into making the sounds for this game, but it doesn't really add to the experience. With that being said though, it doesn't take away either.
CREATIVITY: 4.5/5
Creativity is where this game shines. It takes normal gameplay and puts a unique twist on it, all the while putting you in an unusual atmosphere; a garden. There aren't many games now that take place in gardens, which really does make this game stand out. The game does struggle to clarify why you're in a garden, but it never gets so confusing that you get frustrated. It fact, you'll hardly think about it at all as you're racking up points.
INNOVATION: 4/5
I have to give big props to Frozax Games for not taking the easy way out here. They could've just created a clone of an already overused game, and this would've turned out fine. But they added their own spin, own personality to the game, and it was good. They did something no one's done before, and I honestly liked it. This game would've been amazing if they could've found a way to increase its diversity, which sadly is where this game struggles.
OVERALL: 3/5
Spring up is an enchanting little game that will quickly grow on you, however, it will also fade just as quickly. While this game hosts a vibrant and colorful world full of personality, ultimately the lack of variety ruins the experience.
