9 months from yesterday I'll be walking down the aisle to the perfect man. I haven't always been the most romantic person on the outside, but at heart I dream of gestures that will sweep me off of my feet; and when it comes to weddings- I want a wedding that will be so dreamlike that I won't be able to believe it was real at the end of the day.
I've been working on it, and planning a wedding isn't as easy as it seems. I was surprised in the beginning how well it was going. The first thing I started to do was try on dresses, and I felt like a princess! I knew when I found the perfect one- somehow, it just fit me perfectly and when I saw myself, I saw what my fiance would see as I walked down the aisle, and it neary brought me to tears as I stood on the platform staring into the three-way mirror.
My mom was too unsure as I had only been to two bridal stores and it was the second dress I tried on (despite the fact that I had tried on about 30 others!) Plus it was the exact opposite of what I originally wanted. I had said I wanted something simple, white, no lace or beadings. No veil, no train. Here I was saying that this off the shoulder, cathedral train, champange with chantilly lace, mermaid fit dress was the perfect dress for me. And when she put the veil on my head, despite the, "No I don't think I want a ve- OH that's so prettty!" It was a match made in heaven- me and my dress!
After that, though, it became more difficult when we had to pick a place and date. For some reason we fell in love with the idea of an April wedding. When we finally found a venue, our April 18 date was booked. When we picked April 11 instead, we found that out later that was the weekend of Easter. The last weeked in April is my mother's birthday, leaving only the first weekend in April. And so, we are to be wed April 4, 2009!
It took us the longest to find the right spot. At first we picked a small chapel that is gorgeous about 3 hours away from our hometown, we were going to have the wedding ourdoors in front of it. When we got there to see it, it didn't scream "perfect" to me but I could tell my fiance loved it so we picked that as our spot. Within a month I had decided that I wanted the wedding to be closer to home where all of our guests could make it. After all, the day is about being with your family and friends! But we had had trouble finding a spot in our hometown. After a little more searching, though, we found the perfect spot. There is a beautiful grand hall with stairs that I will walk down and meet my father at, and an aisle runner will be placed down the center with chairs on either side, flowers galore and my adorable flower girl will walk down with her cousin and my four friends all before me. At the front I will meet my future husband.
Afterwards, there will be a champange toast and cake for everywhere, along with heavy ordeavers instead of a sit down dinner. Our Frank Sinatra 6 piece band will play and everyone will have a good time, I'm sure. At the end of the night my husband and I will run through bubbles as husband and wife to a life full of happiness and great memories of a dream-come-true-wedding.
What really makes a wedding a dream? It's not the flowers, or the cake. It's not the location or the food. It's the person you are marrying and the people around you. Remember what's important. Enjoy planning a wedding, but remember not to lose sight of those you love!
