High Blood Pressure affects many Americans every day. Hypertension as it is called occurs when the force of blood against the artery walls is too strong. This can cause hardening of the articles, arthrosclerosis.

Having high blood pressure also has many other affects on the body, many of which can go unnoticed. It increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, as well as cause blindness, kidney disease and congestive heart failure.

There are many treatments available on the market today, but high blood pressure can't be controlled from medication alone. A proper treatment plan includes medications, regular exercise and a healthy diet. Other things that can help includes quitting smoking and limiting the consumption of alcohol.

Healthy eating is one of the most important elements of maintain high blood pressure. Not many people evaluate what they are allowing to enter into their body, which can have adverse health effects.

Sodium is part of the everyday diet. Lowering your sodium intake greatly increases the effectiveness of any medications that you might be taking. Research shows that people who had a lower sodium diet had less instances and better maintenance of high blood pressure.

High blood pressure can also be reduced by eating foods that are low in saturated fats and cholesterol, vegetables, and dairy low in fat.

Another method to preserving your blood pressure level is the way food is prepared. Instead of choosing to deep fry something, bake or steam it instead. Doing this not only prevents the consumption of fats and cholesterol, but preserves more of the nutrients that are naturally found in the food.

Part of making good choices, which in the end, helps your blood pressure is variety and moderation. Even if you can't completely cut out all the bad things, eating small amounts of each different thing can help both your blood pressure and your overall health.

Today, we are all faced with a fast paced life and sometimes eating on the run is the only way. Even if you have to stop at a fast food restaurant, they still have choices that are healthy for you. Baked potatoes, salads and fruit dishes are just to name a few. As the world becomes more conscience of what they are eating, these restaurants are making more of an effort to accommodate.

No matter what meal it is that you are eating, there is always something you can substitute for something healthier. Instead of eating those greasy French fries, spring for some leafy greens; your body and your blood pressure will thank you.
