Mothers Should Maintain Healthy Diet While Breastfeeding
Mothers know that a baby's nutritional needs rest strictly on the breast milk she provides. By this reasoning, mothers need to retain a strict, healthy diet. When babies are born large at birth, the fat the mother obtains while she is pregnant is exhausted quickly. Generally, she has to eat well to maintain milk amounts to sustain her baby.
You diet needs to contain a high amount of calories but still be a nutritious diet. The diet should be similar to the one you used while you were pregnant. Mothers who live in famine conditions still produce milk but lack, on some level, vitamins A, D, B6 and B12.
If you are a smoker, you need to take extra precautions. If you smoke nearly 20 cigarettes a day, you could have a reduction in breast milk you produce. Smoking can also harm your baby. How? A baby that is nursing on a chain smoking mom, run high risks of vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate and restlessness in some babies. Unfortunately, these babies run a higher chance of dying from SIDS or as it is commonly referred to as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
You should know that any heavy drinking is bad for you but it can harm your infant if you breastfeed. Should you breastfeed, avoid consuming high amounts of alcohol. Small amounts are fine.
An infant whose mother exceeds the recommended caffeine amount will be irritable, sleep less and want to feed more. You should limit the amount of caffeine you take in.
If you follow these guidelines, you can rest assure your baby is getting the proper vitamins and other nutrients he or she needs. Just like you protected them in the womb, you should do the same thing when you a breastfeeding. You don't want any kind of harmful substance passing through your milk to your baby.
Foods and Drinks That Cause Baby Fussiness
Breastfeeding is a wonderful experience for women who get to do it. Eating foods that were big problems during pregnancy is great too. However, sometimes the two don't work well together. Why is this? What a woman eats and drinks and takes for medicine does indeed affect the breast milk.
Breast milk Flavors
Some babies appear to enjoy the breast milk that has a different flavor to it every now and then. Now while some babies may enjoy the change, others are not so fond of it and get fussy. If, as a woman, this ends up happening, stop eating that food until you are done breast-feeding.
