With our current generation of gaming systems, the games itself have been taken to levels far beyond anything ever seen. Such is the case with the resident evil franchise. Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 had a formula of using the weapons to defend yourself rather than going out and aggressively attacking the zombies. There wasn't anything that said you couldn't go and attack them, but you would have to factor in the amount of ammo remaining. Resident Evil 4 changec the entire concept, making the character with the possibility of attacking more. While you could shoot the zombies, you also had the opportunity to use other attacks to destroy them. It was definitely a new spin. Now that Resident evil 5 is going to be coming out, it seems to have integrated the same system. But there is a difference. Instead of caucasian zombies, they are black. It does not help the matter that the main character is a white male. It would seem that it's a case of racism since the trailer shows graphic pictures of the male shooting charging blacks or attacking blacks, but is it?
Well first of all we have to look at the setting. The area that resident evil 5 takes place in is Africa. Unless times have changed, I do believe Africa still has black people in there. I don't understand why there wouldn't be any black people in Africa. if the designers chose to depict another race in Africa, then you would probably still hear racism because the blacks are now excluded from the game. it bugged me when i read some blog saying that the game depicts the male protagonist (Chris Redfield) shooting men, women, and children in the game. That imagery would be vivid alone. First of all, in the resident evil games, children are rarely shown. Even if they are, they're not zombies so I had no idea why this person wrote that comment. Another point is why should we make a big deal for the blacks, but not for the other races? All the resident evils had caucasians in them, yet there haven't been any complaints. The closest would probably be resident evil 4 where the people are spanish, but that is not said out right. as far as I know, there hasn't been a huge outrage for that game. the blacks are not the only ones who have suffered such catastrophic losses. I'm sure each race has had there own share of atrocities. so why should we focus only on blacks entirely?
It is easy to say something, but in some cases action speak louder than words. As far as I know, there probably aren't any restrictions on a black programmer to be on this game. if that's the case, why don't some of these programmers go and do something about it then? if it offends them that much, some should be working with capcom to fix this error. Besides, the protagonists in the resident evil have been white. the japanese had the opportunity to make the protagonists asian, but they really haven't. There's only one exception and she's a questionable person. so they recognize a multitude of races. Even in the game, there seems to be a new black protagnists. so they can't say they've been excluded. in all honesty, this game is not racist. it's fine as is and it should be remembered that it's only a game. if we're going to oppose this game, why haven't we opposed others? Grand Theft Auto was pretty bad with killing random people, sex, drugs, swearing, yet the words that I hear is "it's only a game." frankly that was disturbing. the point is this should pass since this probably won't be the worst thing to come.
