Located in Saugerties New York, a little over two miles off thruway I-87 exit 20, is Rip Van Winkle Campground. For many years this has been a favorite getaway for locals and visitors to the are alike with good reason, it is one of the best kept secrets in the state when it comes to camping. Whatever type of experience you are looking for you can likely satisfy it here.

The Rip Van Winkle Campground (RVWC) is set on 160 acres of prime woodland in the foothills of the Catskill mountains. What makes the RVWC so spectacular are the choices it provides in allowing you to choose your camping experience, unlike many campgrounds which are all too homogenized. The choices you have in scenery are truly distinct and sure to fit whatever you desire.

The Ledges section runs through the middle of the camp and centers sites around a large rock ledge. This is great for the adventurous, especially children that enjoy climbing and exploring in a safe enviornment. This is the preffered spot for large groups and is also where you will generally be assigned if you do not request a different area.

The Rivers Edge, as its name implies, is set along the mountain spring fed Plattekill Creek. This is the most popular area and is great for families or anyone that enjoys the soothing sounds of water when sleeping. The RVWC has one mile of unspoiled shore line which house sites. The sites run right to the waters edge and fishing is allowed. If you desire this area specifically be sure to book in advance as they tend to go fast. If Norman Rockwell were to paint a family at a campsite this would be his inspiration.

Finally, the Lovers Lane area is available, but be aware this is an adults only area. These sites are set a bit farther off the beaten path and are both more spacious and set farther apart from each other promising a bit more peace and quiet. If you like campgrounds with plenty of privacy this is ideal for you. There is no better get away for you and your loved one to cozy up by the fire and not have to worry about people passing by.

The park itself has a manned traffic control gate around the clock and each site provides a fire ring and picnic table. Full hook up sites are also available which include water, 30/50 amp electric hookups, and a sewer hookup. Other general ammenities include a general store, propane filling station, firewood, public phones, a dump station, a laundry room, and WiFi service. Throught the site you will find flush toilets, public water supplies, and
