Movie reviews: The Love Guru

"The Love Guru" is a classic example of Mike Myers' radical sense of humor. Written with Graham Gordy and produced with Gary Barber, Myers' Love Guru character is on the level with any of his other beloved past characters: Austen Powers, Wayne's World, etc. The natural imported talent of Justin Timberlake (Jacque "le coq" Grande) and Jessica Alba (the Leafs owner, Jane Boullard) means the movie is far from lacking in star power. The general census is if you liked "Steve Austen: international man of mystery" series, "The Love Guru" will have a space in your movie library before too long. The omnipresent Myers sidekick, Verne Troyer, playing as the Leafs' coach, Punch Cherkov, will definitely give any Mike Myers fan a laugh. In all honesty, I was almost expecting a cameo of Dr. Evil by the end. Myers' "The Love Guru" was a real enjoyable watch.

Though the Indian film industry will probably never be the same, "The Love Guru" was meant to be more than just a simple movie. Whether a lighthearted interplay between Myers and Chopra, or the natural evolution of Myers' own compassionately engendered creativity, "The Love Guru" should be recognized for its depth underneath its layer of slapstick comedy. Much like the clown that weeps beneath his painted smile, Myer's Maurice Pitka character is as much for his father as it is for Chopra.
