Do you want to increase your intelligence? Read! Reading is the foundation of all intelligence. In society when a person cannot read they are considered to be illiterate. Being illiterate places these people at the mercy of everyone else. When an individual develops the capacity to read and comprehends that which they read they become more intelligent and are no longer considered illiterate.
Learning to read has many benefits. Being able to read allows a family to draw closer as the parent can now spend time reading bedtime stories to their children. These same parents can read a newspaper and keep abreast of what is going on in their community. Reading allows a person to read their ballot when voting, read the labels on the food they purchase in the grocery store, read a map to get directions on their trip-reading just open so many doors. Reading allows a mother to read the beautiful poem she received from her loving child.
When reading and comprehension skills are increased the earning capacity of an individual increases. Reading is basic to the ability to achieve in school and is basic to achievement on the job. When a child learns to read well he or she becomes better at taking tests. Tests are the measuring tool used in the school system and on the job to determine progress. Those who cannot read fail math, science, history, English, reading, job interviews, and job placement tests. Such failures are then regulated to the bottom rungs of life and live in abject poverty. Encouraging people to improve their reading skills can lift them out of the clutches of poverty. Upon reading better they can become better communicators and land the better paying jobs.
Reading impacts every area of life. Reading affects our health, wealth, recreation, careers, companionship, and where we live. With so much depending upon our ability to read it becomes important that this skill be enhanced in everyone's life. A failure to encourage reading and comprehension skills is agreeing to the downfall of the economy as it exists today. This need becomes more pronounced when considering the speed at which information is spread across the world using the internet. The spread of information through the web has created a global community in which people everywhere competes for the same jobs.
Individuals who cannot read will automatically fall to the bottom of this community. Reading with comprehension is at least a step in the right direction in alleviating the growing probability of increasing illiteracy throughout the world. It is imperative reading and comprehension be encouraged so that global communities can communicate values, morals, and mutual respect for one another. Reading is basic to knowledge acquisition-reading is basic to increasing intelligence. Developing a reading habit is an investment in the future of the world.
