What being human means to me could be described by reversing those roles in my life. That's why I refer to myself as, "A human being." I'm always a human first, but then again, I have another side of me that's deep within my being. That's the side that knows why I do what I do and why I hold all those roles in my ego. Even so, it might be easier for me to explain what it meas to be human if I divide and describe the two sides to you.
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN:
To me it meas that I hold an ego in my mind all the time, and my ego looks for roles to identify my life. So far and as of today, my roles include but are not excluded to the following:
I'm a daughter, sister, friend, student, wife, mother, retired teacher of the disabled who became disabled as well, a writer who tries to inspire, cook, cleaner, part time victim, a cancer survivor and as of today, I'm also a cancer free lady, living abundantly on a middle aged, disabled teacher's salary as I write day and night, while blind as a bat and having a hot flash.
So you see, what it means to be human involves a lot of complicated things, and especially when it comes to feelings. For me, it's my feelings that create more human issues than I care to admit, but here's a description of just a few feelings that make me human..
Being human means I get happy, but it also means I get sad. Soon after that, being human means I get mad. After I get mad, that human in me can even get bitter, which can even make the human side of me sick from resentment, so it was my human side and my ego who created my role as, "a victim," until time went by and I survived. That's when my human mind thought that surviving meant I'd live on borrowed time, so within my human mind, I bided my time until four or five years went by when I woke up one day to find that I'd gone blind.
Since my ego needed a role to identify me for what I could no longer see, my humanity became even blinder than me. That's when all my roles and even my ego became invisible, so I called myself, "Ms. Magoo," after that legally blind cartoon character, which describes yet another aspect of my human side. I'm funny sometimes, and I have to admit that I crack myself up, which is good for me, because you see, being legally blind means that my home has become a prison.
You see, blind people can't drive, legally, but I can write by the light of my computer screen. So, now can you see why I'm a writer who, blind as a bat and having a hot flash, writes day and night just to find what it means to be a human who can't see how to find a life?
WHAT IT MEANS TO SEE FROM THE BEING:
Thankfully, we each have another side to our humanity, and I believe my being derives from one root, which is the same root that you derived from too. It's our common source, and the source is God, of course. Since we are created in His image, do you know what that means for we who are human beings? It means our human side doesn't have to be victimized by life. If we can learn to see through our being, we can survive our human side with peace of mind all the time. The being is where blind faith takes the place of fear, pain and strife in life.
It's the being that makes being human worth being, so today I can honestly say being human is the reason they say, "God works in mysterious ways."
To Conclude:
Don't be confused. Just look deep into your soul, the only thing you own, and try to find your being. Once you do, your human life will improve!
