Necessity and desire compel a gardener to have a potting shed. A potting shed provides a place to organize all the tools and materials needed to garden. It is an area for gardening related activities only. When a gardener has a potting shed the dirt is relegated to that area, not in your house, garage, or back porch. A quick swipe and all is clean enough! Who cares if the potting shed has dirt all over the place? Anyway, a gardener truly longs for a workspace that is all their own. A potting shed is a place where no one else intrudes without invitation.
A person can use a potting shed anytime of the year. Indoor plants can be pruned, cleaned, transplanted, fertilized, debugged, and nurtured in a delightful atmosphere that is away from the stresses of life. When springtime comes, you can use the shed to start your garden and prepare your gardening tools for the big push to plant your plants and gardens when the weather permits. In the fall the cleanup of pots and tools take place. In the winter organization and plans can be worked out and stored. Potting shed can be used year round if you want.
Setting up a table at a height where you don't have to awkwardly hunch over to work on a project, as well as a spigot and sink to wash up in are important features needed. Building shelving to store gardening tools so they are at your immediate disposal will save the time looking all over for them. A well planned potting shed can have a place for everything. Often frustration sets in when looking all over for tools or gardening equipment. They could be anywhere; still in the garden hidden by weeds, at the neighbor's house, in the cellar, in the garage, or at some unseen area. Storing the stuff in the potting shed can ease much stress through organization and knowing where everything is.
Potting sheds have their own unique smell and feel to it. If it is set up right, it can be a cool area to sit in to meditate or read a book or magazine in during the hot weather. No harsh noise except the environmental sounds of the birds and animals. It can be your own private oasis. Just think of the earthy smells and sounds that envelope you as you sit in a nice comfortable chair in your potting shed. When the house gets too noisy for your sensibilities, this is a place you could go if you need to escape.
A potting shed is a place of nurturing, life, solitude, and sanctuary. It is such a big value to put on a small area. If you close your eyes you could envision yourself working lovingly with your plants or sitting reading a book in your potting shed that is covered with flowering vines and surrounded with flowers blooming profusely. Why a potting shed? Why not?
