The sounds of his surroundings reached his ears before anything else did. The sound of the wind rustling through the trees, the sound of crickets chirping and the sound of the raging waves of the flowing river agaisnt jagged rocks all bounced around in his head like jumping beans in a frying pan. Then he became aware of the pain, the pounding in his head, he must have hit it on something for he felt a warm stickiness coating his scalp and the back of his neck. But where was he? How did he get here? Why was he here? The questions were like sharp needles stabbing at his memory. Each question made him wince and his head pound more fiercely.
Slowly his eyes fluttered and then opened and he found himself to be staring up at the midnight blue sky. The stars twinkled and danced, obvlisious to the plights of the inhabitants below them. He tried to lift his hand to his face and rub at his eyes but was surprised to find that his limbs were like stone. He let out an audible groan and managed to roll onto his side where he emptied the contents of his stomach in only two harsh coughs. Unable to wipe the bile from his mouth he shut his eyes again and waited for feeling to come back into his arms and legs. There were numerous causes he could think of that would make him unable to move. Had he been drugged? Had he hurt his neck? If that was the case then he wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon. The fact that he couldn't remember anything didn't help much and he tried once more to sit up.
His arms were tingling but he managed to pull himself into a sitting position and he looked around. He was in a clearing, surrounded by tree. They looked to be aspens, or maybe they were maples. He knew that being able to tell the species of the trees around him would really make no difference if he didnt' know how he'd gotten here in the first place. For all he knew he could be on some deserted island somewhere. With a groan of pain and few grunts of effort he managed to drag himself over to a tree and brought his knees up to his chest. He looked down at his bare feet and noted the raw circles that wraped around his ankles and wrists. He'd been bound by something, by someone who didn't care weather they hurt him or not. Had they brought him up here and left him for dead?
He shielded his eyes with one hand and rubbed them wincing when his fingers masagged a rather tender spot on the side of his face. He moved his fingers along it, feeling the grit and a brine that had been buried in his skin.
