Darkness hung its pall
Not for fear or sorrow
Comfort was its calling
To cover
To protect
Silent nights
As soldiers wait
Around the world
For light to shine
Bursting forth
Piercing darkness
Signaling change
From fierce stands
Against oppressors
Who rob not only life
But hope
Red, White and Blue
Exploding on the canvas
Of battles raging
testing long suffering and tenacity
The colors quicken
Sparks ignite
Fires of compassion
Integrity and honor
On the horizon
Freedom prompts
The quest for something greater.
