Introduction
Both of the brothers are proclaimed History writers, and have now written another book in the series, the Yearbook. A fantastic book that helped me "Recapture Sunday afternoons and long summer days. It really is the perfect book for every boy from 8-80, but I wouldn't recommend it to the girls.
First Impressions
Looking at the front of the book, with the Hardback copy, it looks tremendous, it's very hardwearing, while not being overly heavy. The blurb on the back simply entices the young and the old to open up and have a read. I then pull back the cover to reveal a marvellous marble effect, which looks like it could've been done by the authors.
Content
It really is full of things to do, making a bow and arrow, the greatest paper aeroplanes, all the fun things that were done before television I suppose, I wouldn't know. It has a great deal of fun in it whilst also being educational. The highlight for me has to be the water bomb made out of paper, it's a million times better than the conventional balloon method. It also has loads of games to entertain you like Table Football, and How to play Poker. The paper aeroplanes made in this book really are the best that I have ever made, and the making cloth fireproof was incredible. It also gives ideas of more long term ideas like making a go-cart, and how to build a tree house.
Educational Use
I have learnt loads from this book and it has taught me loads about History. For example, it gives in formation about Rorkes Drift, and Admiral Lord Nelson which really are fascinating. It also teaches Grammar, it does this much better than any English Teacher I know, but makes it fun at the same time. It also teaches about Shakespeare, and Latin phrases that should be known. At the end, it gives information on books that every boy should read. My favourite section was how to understand Girls; it did this in a funny way, which is also true.
Quality of Writing
In this book I have never found a Typo and the quality and advancement of the writing is absolutely superb, and the brothers have obviously worked well together.
Usability
This is the only place where it is let down, the book was written as the 1960's at a guess, and a lot of the things that were available then now take a lot of tracking down. You can no longer purchase Alum from the chemist and have to buy online. This makes the making cloth fireproof and the tanning of the skin extremely difficult to do. The games that are in here are now
