The newly weds dancing face to face, arms wrapped around each other. The sound of sweet, serenading song playing in the background. For the first time, as husband and wife, two bodies are swaying and swinging to the music as if they are one. Forgetful to the envious stares and open-mouthed wishful thoughts of the congregation, man and wife savor the taste of the moment which is one of the many firsts that their new life together will bring The Newly-wed's First Dance (as husband and wife).
The couple's first dance is a moment for them and by them. What does it mean by this? Simple. Though the newly-wed's first dance is aimed to delight the guests, it is basically the couple's first intimate moment together (believe me, it's not the honeymoon) and something that they should cherish while it lasts. Second point, the first dance is by the couple because ultimately whatever it is that the guests see and hear in their first dance both the bride and groom are responsible in choosing the components of the dance which are the song and the type of dance.
Before the song is chosen, of course, decide on what kind of dance the couple are willing to and can do. Are they traditional or contemporary? Are they willing to do waltz, jive, salsa, and tango? Do both of them have the talent in dancing (or even just the capability to dance)? Would both parties be willing to learn the dance of their choice? The bottom-line is, they both should come to a consensus and be willing to take time and effort to learn and practice. It doesn't have to be something grand actually, just simple and memorable.
Now that we have a dance, it's time to choose the song. More complicated than choosing the dance, the song will add color to the "performance". It is complicated because the choices are so huge. There would be too many beautiful songs that you think you like and would fit the dance, but needless to say picking just one special song out of a whole lot is a daunting task.
To help you narrow down those 1001 songs in your list, read on these pointers:
Don't just listen to the melody of the song and how well it goes with the kind of dance that you chose. Take into consideration the words of the song, as well. Although you plan on playing it instrumental, some people would still be able to recognize the song and might know the lyrics. We wouldn't want them to pick out the song's meaning as being irrelevant to the occasion or the mood of the event.
Pick something that is memorable. It might be a song
