The First Gifts of My Day
I wonder what it is
to be the first ray to fold back the night
and sketch the day
To fall like and arrow through the dark,
carving out a path for the day to follow
To fly in reach for your room
and find you in a dark and chill
as I float above your bed in stare and delight
Like a secret that lives for the slightest fraction of a second
before the air ignites with a glow that spreads
like an explosion of light and then suddenly,
it is morning
And you stir beneath the covers
And I am imprisoned in this space that surrounds you
The very light inside this nowhere you can't see
But I am the morningthe most envied part of day,
for I am there to catch the first glimpse of your eyes
To follow you through day and warm the air
that has come to kiss your skin
while I ride inside the strands of your hair
And float above you as a crown of light
And I will burn and slowly fade
But I am with you
until the first drops of dark that come to bind me
and hurl me into the heavens for a sleep
A sleep that is filled with your eyes (the first gifts of my day)
And I sleep
And I sleep
Until I find myself awake and in flight
Falling like an arrow through the dark,
carving out a path for the other rays of day to follow
While I float above your bed in wait and stareand delight
for the opening of your eyes

I'm trying to forget all the memories
I'm trying so hard to move on,
I'm trying to just forget
