Change is word that has constantly been repeated throughout this election process. All candidates have professed to bring "real change", something their counterparts can not do. But what is real change? Does it mean balancing the national budget? Does it mean ending the war on terrorism? Does it mean solving the global energy costs? Does it mean cutting taxes to the poor? How about cutting taxes for the rich? Again, what does REAL CHANGE mean?
I think real change means making this world a better place to live in. It means cutting out socialistic ideas from our society. It means placing responsibility on families to provide for themselves. It means educating our people so they can be productive. It means punishing criminals that blatantly disobey laws. It means appointing local judges and officials that will fight for our rights. It means doing away with political correctness.
Our government is the greatest organization in the world. Our Constitution is divine and flawless. We have all the tools. But will real change come in 2008? Look at the candidates and you have your answer.
John McCain does not emphasize huge change. His policies to a certain degree are similar to those of the current President. Is the man that has sat in Congress for so many years really going to bring us change? He supports offshore oil drilling but does not support drilling in ANWAR. This is not the type of president that we need. I doubt it.
And then you have Barack Obama. Obama professes to be the "man of the hour". Many think he will save this country. The best assesment of future performance is past behavior. Obama has really not done anything. He has risen to where he is because he is an amazing speaker. He has energized much of the American public. Where is his substance though? Where are his actions? Why should I believe that he'll become president and even do what he says when he never has in the past? And if he does, will he bring the REAL change I was talking about or will we have elected a pop star?
The people of this our beautiful country continue to dissappoint me. They want real change but do not educate themselves enough on the issues to know who will bring that change. I just hope that as we begin to feel more disenfranchised by our government, we will start to elect real, honest, men of change. Educated, innovative people like the those that founded this country, will be the ones to bring it back to glory.
