I believe that God can and does heal today. The point of this article is to show that God does not desire for all people to be healed all the time. Some Christians believe that God desires everyone to be healed, and they could, if they only had enough faith. With 8 points I would like to show that this is not biblical:
1. Who ultimately heals? Medicine/people or God?
If we say that medicine/people ultimately heal, then why do we need God? People can go to the doctor or surgeon for treatment and take it from there.
If we say that God ultimately heals, then what do we say about unbelievers who are healed? They don't have faith in God, to say nothing of specific faith in God to heal them. Yet unbelievers are healed of all kinds of physical and mental problems every day, all around the world.
2. How are unbelievers healed? This ties in to point #1 above. They are healed without having any faith in God. If we say that others are praying for them, this is begging the question. For one, the teaching in question is that the sick individual himself or herself must have enough faith to be healed, not others praying for this person. To say that the healing came about from the prayers of others is irrelevant. Second, sadly, there are families, whole communities which do not believe in God; so no one is praying for this person (at least not to the one true God). Yet this person is still healed, without himself or the community having any faith in God.
3. Demon possessed are healed by Jesus, yet they did not have any faith in God.
Matthew 8:16- "When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word..."
Matthew 8:28-32- "When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 'What do you want with us, Son of God?' they shouted. 'Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?' Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, 'If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.' He said to them, 'Go!' So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water."
Matthew 9:32-33- "While they were going out, a man who was demon-possessed and could not talk was brought to Jesus. And when the demon was driven out, the man who had been mute spoke. The crowd was amazed and said, 'Nothing like this has ever
