If you've been how to avoid public speaking, I have some excellent suggestions. These three possibilities are only a small fraction of the ways to NOT learn to speak in public.
First, there is a great way to avoid that has only become widely available in the last ten or fifteen years with the proliferation of casinos in the United States.
Poker is a great way to avoid public speaking and other activities in your life.
Many cities and towns are not that far from a Native American reservation that now has casino gambling and most of those casinos have poker. Some casinos, such as Viejas, Barona, Sycuan or Pechanga near San Diego, California, actually have a training table so you can learn at smaller stakes before you are ready to sit down in a game that might cost 30 to 100 dollars or more to start. Even before the spread of "Indian Gaming", some municipalities have had legal poker, and this is especially true in California. The Palomar Club Casino in San Diego and Oceans 11 in Oceanside are just two examples of many nonreservation clubs or "card casinos" throughout the state.
You need not be afraid of speaking too much when playing and casinos are happy to teach you poker. You may be able to get into the game for as little as ten dollars. When you sit down at a table, you will be asked how many chips you would like and perhaps your name and where you're from. After that you might say that you don't talk much and people will assume that's the way you are. You can sit there like a rock until it's time to throw your cards away or throw your chips in. You don't even have to say "I bet" or "I call" or "I raise". You simply take the action by shoving your chips in front of you or by pushing your cards [face down!] to the dealer. You can literally do this for hours, or if you have the stamina, days! I recommend saying "Hello", "Goodbye", "Bathroom?" and "Food?" and "I'm not much of a talker". If you don't want to speak much, I would stay away from phrases which may lead to too much conversation or attention such as "Where are you from?", "How's the buffet?" or "That dealer is hot!" However, you may also want to include "ATM?" in your verbal repertoire. If you're lucky, you can learn enough so that you can avoid speaking once a week while only losing about 4000 to 5000 dollars a year!
Second, another great way to avoid public speaking is to go to the movies. There are new ones coming out every week. You could go to the finest theater in your area and even eat and drink
