We all stand this day
We stand together as brothers
We stand for all we believe
We stand for the idea of freedom
We fight for love
We fight for our children
We fight for our family
We fight for you
Everyday we soldiers are reminded
Reminded that we wont be going home soon
From the moment we wake from our dreams,
and feel the cold breath of war on our faces
We remember.
I remember watching my best friend die
I remember him telling me to tell his family that he loves them
I remember that his face at that moment made all of it not worth it
I scream
All of the fighting was not worth it
I wonder how many of those men we killed had children
How many of the kids would grow up without a father
I lay here now, in my own blood
I look down at the blood and see my reflection
I see my wife begging me not to go
I see myself telling her it would all be ok
I see my entire life leading to this point
I cry
Life wasn't all that I thought it would be
This didn't hurt as much as I thought it would
Nothing was ever what I thought it would be.
I die with a smile
I die knowing that I died for a purpose
I died for protecting my wife
Protecting her from what I have done
I close my eyes and think of home
Lying in bed with her late on a Sunday morning
Looking long into her eyes thinking
Thinking that this is where I would want to be when I die
I laugh
I die happy.

Poetry: Through a soldier's eyes
UNINTENTIONAL HERO
I wonder when a soldier’s face
Is shown in a magazine
What goes on
The Landing
Pitching, rolling, heaving the stench of death and fear
Heads bowed low, praying, begging so sincere
Your Cougar...
Of course, I fell in love with you at first
sight,
You grabbed my heart and held it tight.
I felt loves
I don’t know what I’m doing here
I doubt my presence still
I don’t know who I’m fighting
Don’t
by Bri Mark
Our forces are our saviours,
their bravery we must commend,
it's been shown throughout our history,
on these heroes we all
