This country was founded by immigrants; however, many that came to this country from foreign lands did it legally. They waited for months in New York to go through the proper channels. They learned English, found jobs, learned the Constitution and the laws, and when it came time to become citizens and swear their allegiance to this country; they were proud to do so.
I understand that people want to have a better life, and to live in freedom; it's the great American Dream, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. There has been and always will be a system set up for entry into this country and it makes it harder for the legal immigrants who are trying to abide by the rules. They are the ones who are willing to work jobs that (we) don't want to do. Their willingness to work hard, get a better education, and pay taxes, helps our economy thrive.
On the other hand, you have the illegal aliens, who don't give one whit how they go about doing it. They cross our borders every day by the hundreds, work illegally, don't pay taxes and send their money back home; which does not help our economy. They are getting driver's licenses and according to some statistics are the reason for the rise in serious accidents. Since they got the licenses illegally and have no insurance; the cost of insurance premiums goes up for us. As for the 18-wheelers on the road; I recommend a wide berth be given to those vehicles because one in six will be driven by an illegal with a fake license. Also, if you haven't noticed, our prisons are full of intruders who have violated our laws and most of those are very serious crimes; like murder, rape, and drugs.
We were warned in the 80's that there was going to be an immigration problem and that the current resources of the time would not be capable of handling the problem in the future. That went unheeded and now we have approximately 17 million people countrywide that have non-legal status and not enough personnel to combat the situation. Illegal immigration is not and never will be good for America.
I don't mind if someone from a foreign country wants to live here, I'm all for sharing; but I want it done right. The laws and the Constitution were written for a reason and no one has the right to change it for a select group. If you want to be an American and participate in all the great things that she offers and benefit by all that she gives; please obey the laws.
