Being a nurse can be one of the most wonderful career choices for most. Some do it for the love of it and the patients, while others are unfortunately just there for the money. While some think nursing is confined to just direct patient care or feel a nurse would be stuck 'bathing people' or 'just giving medications' for the rest of their lives, there's alot more to it and more we can do. During training to become a nurse as well as on the job, people come to realize how much they can do. Nursing can be where some want to be for as long as possible because they're able to be involved in the welfare of others. For others, nursing is a stepping stone to another level above that.

Some become Registered nurses and get their BSN (bachelor's degree) then become Nurse Practioners. Once they've done so, they can now specialize in maybe pediatrics or something else that draws interest to them. Some nurses also do nursing informatics, where most of their work are computer based and paper work. Another good one is working with lawyers, doing research for medical lawsuit cases and so forth. Some may even decide they want to be doctors thereafter. Home care is also a popular way for nurses to turn where they may have a steady schedule to work with and spend time doing other things they love. You have nurses working in psychiatric units to better help patients and even in places where they can work with others to care for mentally and physically disabled beings.
It's not just giving meds or so called 'bathing patients', it's wherever you we want to go in the nursing field or beyond. This is one of the most needed careers today and with that, there is no cap or limit. Just find the area that's right for you and make it happen. Everything involves a stepping stone. Everything accomplished means another accomplishment is soon to come. Never let the stresses of life hold you back - you're never too old to do it.
I myself am a new nurse. I love it. No one can tell me I'm doing something disgraceful or wrong because there's no wrong in taking care of others and showing love. This will not be my stop still because there's too much out there that I can do with the career i already have. All we have to do is research. I have my plans to further educate myself in a nursing career even though I plan to continue writing - which just gave me the thought of how many nurses I believe can write about their lives and experiences during their careers as well as on the path of their careers. That would be a great way for nurses to educate others of all the possibilities and careers for those who seek them.
