Movie reviews: Wanted (2008)

A masterpiece of a movie full of twists and thrills; Wanted is certainly one for the history books in the year of 2008. Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy breathe a breath of fresh air into a seemingly dying genre of action and thrills in movies. I personally believe that "Wanted" is a film that everyone will want to see in 2008. Take a trip and venture outside of the borders of your usual preferred genre and take a risk on this action-packed masterpiece!

Angelina Jolie is quite possibly one of the most gorgeous actresses to ever grace our modern cinema screens and in all honesty, what man or woman can deny that obvious fact? Naturally, that is an obvious attraction for some of us to see this movie, but does the movie in its entirety live up to the amount of "sex sells" advertisement and the multi-million dollar advertising and news reports? From me, a loyal film critic, and someone who does not usually venture into this specific genre of movies, I personally give the Timur Bekmambetov directed "Wanted" a high thumbs up!

Deep down, every person loves a fast paced thrill ride, and this time, that rush comes from the center of a film called Wanted. Featuring a select few long-time box office draws including Angelina Jolie who plays the enigmatic Fox, who's entrance into the plot is uncalled for and a complete shock and mystery to the film's title character, Wesley Gibson, portrayed by James McAvoy. Fox then goes on, without introduction, to tell Wesley about his fathers past in what I will personally describe one of, if not THE very best unexpected plot twists I have seen from 2008 movies so far, as to which an unwilling and skeptical Wes is dragged into a life he never knew existed.

The way the film suddenly grasps you and drags you into an unexpected plot is simply immense. It has been tried and attempted many times in the past in many modern day films, yet it has never completely worked. We always seem to see straight through it as both movie goers and movie critics alike. The surprise factor is certainly something lacking in modern day movies, but the way, the general notion of how Wanted literally grabs you by the scruff of your neck and drags you into an immersive and intense new line of story is simply amazing and is without a doubt a breath of fresh air to say the least when it comes down to the lately lacking genre of thrill-based movies, the majority of which, contain little to no thrills at all.

Wanted not only satisfies the need for thrills and kills for
