If you think jigsaw puzzles are really difficult, wait till you try Xena Sola. This is a game that challengers your mind while you have to decide where to place a piece to maximize your score.
Xena Sola is a game where you compete with up to three other players (humans or your computer) to construct a space station. You can be Lilja, Daiyu, Ptole, or Iason who looks very much like one of the "Ninja Turtles". When I first loaded the game, I was greeted by a female cartoon character with a speech balloon containing the options "Play Game", "Tutorial", "Credits", and "Quit". I thought the tutorial page could have given me a little more information on how to score.
I clicked on "Play Game", and was led to the "Game Setup" page. It was on this page that I found out the female cartoon character was known as "Lilja". I clicked on "Play Game" on the page to get to the game screen. The images of the character I was representing, and the characters I was playing against were listed on the left hand corner of the screen with their initial points which was zero. To select a tile, I clicked on the word, "Draw" to transfer a red square boundary to the drawing. I then clicked on it to replace it with the selected tile. I could rotate the tile by doing a right click, and this could also increase the number of square outlines. I was also allowed to place a bet onto the tile to increase my score. Up to 80 tiles could be involved in a game. A tile could be used to complete a landing platform, a power node, or a power line.
Overall, the graphics were good. However, the size of the text, and the cartoon characters used to present the scores on the screen could be smaller so that there will be more space. Occasionally, I have to move my mouse over the cartoon characters to place a tile which I found a little annoying.
By adapting cartoon characters in this game, the game producer gave me the impression that this game was designed for children. If this was really the case, I believe there should not be any betting included as it may encourage the children to gamble even though no real money was directly involved. The game should only test the ability of the player to think instead.
The sound is very good and is appropriate for such a game since a space station is a modern scientific structure. The creativeness and innovation, I found in this game was the idea of construction a space station, and the challenge of placing a selected tile in the correct red outline in the best direction to maximize my score. Overall, I give a three out of five for this game.
