Weekend Promise
Awakened to music from my radio alarm
I turn to hold you so soft and warm.
My arms around your waist so tight
you sigh a whimper, to God's morning light.
The weekend is gone, the weekend we planned.
A trip to the beach, we'd come back suntanned.
The ride on our bikes, the walk in the meadow
a foolish race to the end of a rainbow.
How did we lose, the time that was ours?
What fun was not added to our memoirs.
There were chores to do and errands to run
and we did everything but have some fun.
Now each of us promises, as we throw off the cover
next weekend we'll plan more time with each other.
The weekend's gone, the time has now past
and Monday's regrets are like clouds overcast.
