Poetry: Self-image

THE GRAY

You found me when I wasn't searching
Asked me things I'd ask of you
There was no pause in my routine
To find my way through the maze
Becoming distracted by my "self"
still asking

The words behind your expressions
Are the answers that I need
It may be nothing but some keys
To make my heart move on it's way
Toward a path out of control
still wanting to know

Nothing that you say now
Can change the picture I have drawn
From answers I've begun to color
With shades I've never known
Every thing's not black and white
seeing the gray

The gray is what I've taken
The gray is what I've felt
The gray is all I'm feeling
The gray ...

Here I am in dramatic pause
But its okay cause there's music
Time to think of what I'm needing
To keep me moving forward in the game
Almost at the next blank canvas
still playing

Everything you say now
Could change this painting I have of you
The image now shows our story
All painted with the gray
I wish it was all black and white
I finally saw the gray

The gray is what I've taken
The gray is what I've felt
The gray is all I'm feeling
The gray ... no color ... just gray
