Halo 3 Stole My Boyfriend!
The excitement! In November 2007 my boyfriend and I went to Target to pick up my very own Xbox 360. Much better then the old Xbox, which my boyfriend currently owned at the time, the 360 could hold a monstrous amount of downloaded information, from music, to movies, to games, as well as play DVD's. It used wireless controllers and they had one in my favorite color, green. It mattered very little to me that this Xbox was the Halo 3 edition, but what I did like was that if I bought the system and the Halo 3 game, Target would give me a $60 gift card. My boyfriend wanted the game, since he had previously played Halo and Halo 2, so I figured I'd better get them both while this deal was going.
My boyfriend played both Halo games before Xbox Live was ever created and he remembers having parties where people brought their Xboxs and controllers over to his house so they could connect them and play massive big team battles before the technology was really there. With the creation of Xbox Live he no longer had to invite people over for big team battles and the game started getting played more often.
Then we bought Halo 3. I figured the game would get played about as much as Halo 2. That is, once or twice a week. I was wrong.
The game is addictive. Bungie has done a good job, with new maps available to download every few months, the ability to communicate with gamers across the globe, the ability to hook up with those on the same skill level as you, and a unique two-level ranking system that measures a gamer's skill and experience. This makes for great gaming.
Halo 3 also has many different objective games to play on Xbox Live. There are games such as "Capture the Flag," "Capture the Territory," "Team Slayer," "VIP," and others. It also gives gamers the option to create their own games by altering different maps to their liking. They can even create a soccer game.
If a person is particularly offensive, players can submit gamer reviews about them, as well.
The game is the third and final chapter in the Halo series, where the Elites (the aliens) and the Humans fight their final battle under the command of Master Chief. It is the Humans' objective to destroy all the Elite-built Halo rings throughout the universe.
Many of the maps are new in this game and there are more weapons, plus the functionality of some of the weapons has changed.
My boyfriend craves the game. He almost needs to get in at least one game a day or he feels there is something missing in the day. And he isn't the only one I know who is like this.
In fact, the only way to get a hold of one of our mutual friends is to talk with him on Halo because he won't answer his phone if he is playing (or at all, even when he tells you to call).
So Bungie, must I wait for the red ring of death before I get my boyfriend back, or will this addiction slowly fade out as time goes by? For, as of right now he wields his BR, driving through sand dunes in blue battle armor, assassinating those in red. The only voice I hear is "Double Kill," "Killing Spree," and the occasional "Vehicle Manslaughter."
