Undying Love

When I was a little boy
Not yet four
My parents carried my sister
Through the door.

She never left me alone
And I hated being her brother
I didn't believe my mom when she said
"One day you'll realize you love her"

I never thought that day would come
Hurting her with my taunts and my jeers
Calling her names and pulling her hair
Ignoring her sobs and her tears

Then one day I was crossing the street
And I sprinted for fear of being last
My little sister followed me and
Was hit by a car going to fast

We sat in the hospital for hours on end
Mom kept crying, while dad tried ot be brave
Finally the doctor came out of the room
And said hers was a life they couldn't save

So one last time I saw my sister
Remembering all the times I'd made her cry
I guess I didn't think there wouldn't be time
To make amends and say our goodbyes

With tears in my eyes I neared her bed
There wasn't much time before she had to go
I told her I loved her, and tears came to her eyes
then with her dying breath she smiled and said "I know"
