Situated twenty kilometers south of Cologne on the river Rhine, being one of the largest city in Germany Bonn is one of the oldest cities in this country. Being famous as a birth place of the one of the world`s greatest composers Ludwig van Beethoven and as a home of many Comedic actors due to the international, well-established Improvisation Theater "Springmouse" Bonn has lots to offer to its visitors today. Many people know that Bonn is closely connected with the United Nations and because of that reason the number of UN agencies has grown on the banks of the Rhine.
All this information I got from the local guide.
During my stay in this city which is often described as "a city with a village character" why I cannot understand, I found many interesting places for a visit. For instance, by visiting the exhibition of the Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany which is from 11 April to 31 August this year you can enjoy the time when you spend with the art. I found the topics quite interesting: Existence, Space, History. The unusual works focus on the philosophical human existence. The different works-drawings, paintings, sculptures, photography and even video are very impressive and interesting.
Being a city of culture, Bonn`s main art and culture attraction is the Museum Mile which opens its doors for visitors from all over the world. An interesting festival takes place regularly since 1971. The Bonn Summer open-air festival with its international character includes more than 100 events. It lasts from May to October and every visitor of the city visits at least one of the events.
When I was here for a couple of days I spent some hours in the beautiful Rheinaue Leisure Park which is another landmark of the city. Especially interesting for me was the Japanese Garden with its wonderful water cascades, the small lake and the pagoda which has thirteen stages. In the Rose Garden I was for about an hour. As a real rose lover I collected some ideas that I had seen here for my garden. Different kinds of roses, different colors and lots of beauty that offers this garden. But, of course, one of the main attractions of the Rheinaue Leisure Park was the Rheinaue Lake with its six pontoon bridges and the island in the middle of the lake. I did not wonder that the island is a protected zone for the birds. The island was magnificent!
There are many other interesting places for a visit in Bonn but if you have time and wish, please go to the Rheinaue Leisure Park you will have wonderful time there!
