is called the Seiche Effect, which can be compared to that of making waves in a bathtub. Tides in parts of the Bay of Fundy can rise to the height of a "four-storey building."
Over 2,000 species, some of which are endangered also rely on these waters as a home and hunting ground. When you are visiting this area please do not throw trash into the water or on the ground. Residents and organizations have worked very hard to make this a place where species and humans can enjoy. Visiting this area is a very good learning experience for both adults and children who want to learn more about how important nature is for all of us, and the importance of protecting it.
Aquaculture:
Aquaculture is a huge part of Charlotte County life and has been so for centuries. Many residents make their livings on these waters. In your travels of the county you will see fish cages, weirs, lobster traps, scallop draggers, clam beds and more. Many of the seafood's that you purchase in stores come from these parts. Charlotte County is home to Connor's Brothers Limited, the largest producer of sardines. If you have ever purchased a Brunswick Sardine package from your grocer they are processed right in Charlotte County. Cooke's Aquaculture is also located in Charlotte County and is a large source of farm grown salmon. Thousands of salmon smolt are raised and harvested in aquaculture cages. Once the salmon are old enough they are processed and then distributed.
As with other areas throughout the world, that produce many of the foods we put on our tables, an offset of Mother Nature can be damaging for the area.
Golf Lover's Paradise:
If you have some golf lovers in the family; Charlotte County is the place to be. Herring Cove Provincial Park Golf Course located on Campobello Island offers a 9-hole double tee golf course. The Algonquin Golf Course located in St. Andrews offers an 18-hole par 72 championship golf course. St. Stephen Golf Course, located in St. Stephen offers a 9-hole golf course. My husband had a chance to play two of these courses; St. Andrews and St. Stephen. He thoroughly enjoyed both rounds of golf. Throughout his travels of the world he has had many opportunities to play on numerous courses. The Algonquin Golf Course is ranked in his top five favourite golf courses. They are all beautiful courses and if you are a golf lover you will enjoy a great round of golf and also witness some beautiful scenes of the water.
