of Scottish and Irish decent. For researchers Charlotte County may be your missing link. Families from all over the world who have researched their family roots in many cases have found a connection to Charlotte County.
On the Waters:
Charlotte County has miles of shorelines waiting for you. Children and adults will revel in aimlessly roaming along the Passamaquoddy Bay, Bay of Fundy, and St. Croix River. Depending on where you choose to beachcomb you will notice a uniqueness that the area holds. In some places you will see red sand beaches, in others white sand beaches, pebbled beaches and even more rugged shorelines in other areas. Inner rivers such as Digdeguash, and Waweig; streams such as Dennis Stream; and lakes such as South Oromocto Lake, Chamcook Lake, and Lake Utopia also offer a great place for activities.
Take the kids to the Point in St. Andrews that looks out onto the Passamaquoddy Bay. During low tide the ocean floor bestows a new world in the natural tidal pools that you and the kids will have a blast discovering. These tidal pools are home to hundreds if not thousands of organisms, crustations and other aquatic life forms. Pack a lunch and have a family picnic shore side and enjoy one another with no interruptions.
After beachcombing the shores of Charlotte County take the exploration to the next level; on the waters. Do a sea-kayaking adventure, canoe on the rivers, streams and lakes, dive; or spend an afternoon being chauffeured on the waters, enjoying a whale watching tour.
Whale Watching:
As you and your family sit on board a vessel, you will now be travelling to the deeper waters of the Bay of Fundy to see whales in their natural habitat. Some of the common whales that can be seen in this area are the Minke (approximately 22-24 feet in length), Finback (approximately 88 feet in length), Humpback (approximately 40-50 feet in length) and Right Whales (approximately 35-55 feet in length). Two other whales have been reported in the this area; the Sei Whale (approximately 66 feet in length) with only occasional sighting being reported, and the Blue Whale (approximately 110 feet in length)with very rare sighting being reported. Watching the whales in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring event for young and old. These baleen whales love to frolic and play in the waters of the Bay of Fundy. The spectacular show that awaits you is never duplicated or scripted.
