Poetry: Dreams

by Tenebris

Created on: June 30, 2008

In the twilight untime between sleeping and wakefulness
Runs a thin silvery ribbon of dream
The waves softly lap at the bank and the willow root
Murmuring tales of the worlds by their stream.

The long-feathered branches dip low their dark greenery
Each edg-ed leaf darts a target of rings
Gentle the current which drifts them along with it
Far as they may from the limbs where they cling.

The round polished pebbles glint white through the murkiness
Echoing light through a world that knows none
The clear running water reflects its lands faithfully
Children of neither the moon nor the sun.

Close by the willow wands, lowering, lowering,
High ride the barges upon the gray tide
No shadows are cast by that too-silent multitude
Ever but one at a time is espied.

No keel nor a rudder is needed to pilot them
Always downstream in the current's dim lee
Dragon-necked longboats pursue their way after them
Wings of slack linen outstretched to the sea.
