The sentence that Michael Vick recieved was harsher than most famous people recieve for much worse crimes in my opinion. I personally was never a Michael Vick fan anyway, because I thought he was extremely arrogrant to be nothing more than a football player, but be that as it may, he got his day in court!
What Mr. Vick did in the deaths of these animals was horrendous, to say the least. But he wasn't endangering someone elses life by driving like a madman while under the influence.Or doing cocaine, like there was no tomorrow.Or engaging in a million, different, unlawful things we see the rich and famous people do everday and get away with, or at the very worst, pay a fine and do community service!
What most people don't understand about the Vick saga is this. In the south, dog fighting has been going on for hundreds of years. In the northern part of this country you have GreyHound racing, Horse racing, and several other animal involved sports. We won't even go into what happens to these animal's after they outlive they're usefulness. Thats another story. But in the south, you have dog fighting and cock fights! Both while cruel in the eyes of most, have been around for centuries!
If you have never been to see a cock-fight, it is just as bloody and cruel as a dog-fight! Unfortunately for the chicken, we don't have the same sentimental feelings for them as we do our family pet!
I was raised in the south, and both of these so called sports, happened every weekend! It was nothing new or out of the ordinary. It was common-place! It was only because it was someone that was in the lime-light, that was doing this activity that it was put on the national stage!
Most people in this country knew full well that this kind of thing was going on, and had been for many years, but it was only when it involved a famous football player, someone that was seen as a role model for our children, and a lot of them looked up to or idolized, that it became a HUGE event! And rightly so!
Michael Vick was made an example of. There's no doubt about that. He got what he deserved, but I as well as the rest of the nation have seen a lot worse being done by the rich and famous, with little to no consequences for they're actions! Mr. Vick lost literally millions of dollars, and most of his career due to his bad judgement. I would say that was punishment enough for his transgressions!
In closing, I can only hope that the next celebrity who breaks the law, pays the same kind of price he did. Real Jail Time!
