Should you have an attorney for a divorce

by Tammy Decker

Created on: June 30, 2008

Let me say an attorney is always a good idea, just pick the right one, and check with the court house to see how back up they are, because apparently there are a lot of divorces on the books. Isn't that sad? They have a waiting list for divorces, horrible.

Now I don't want to give anyone any ideas, but apparently, if either party wants you can throw your spouse and their child on the street, take what you want, including but not limited to, the house, both cars, the money, and yes even the dog and there are no consequences. "Only applies in Illinois." Even if the judge makes an emergency ruling, no big deal just ignore it. "Contempt of Court" doesn't apply here.

I would get an attorneys advice first though, luck only happens with the evil I'm afraid to say.

As you can guess this all has happened to me and yes I have a attorney that I paid fifteen hundred dollars. This happened going on two years ago and I am still not divorced and he still hasn't followed any of the judges orders. That's weird. If you knew this area you would know what I mean.

Now even though the stuff was "Marital Assets" he tells the judge, and I quote. " I took it all because she can't pay for it." My attorney showed proof that I had been paying for it all along anyway. The judge says we will rule on the " Marital Assets " at the final hearing. So in the mean time he (my ex) kept possession of the assets, including both cars.( I lost my job, because of no transportation.) That was in January 2007, we still haven't had a final hearing. Oh, did I mention, the judge was new and has never tried divorce cases, EVER. My attorney was disgusted to say the least.

So, in the mean time the house was foreclosed on ( with my stuff left inside), the car taken because no payments were made on either since my ex threw me out. My attorney has been unable to get a meeting with the judge, she (my attorney) even notified the judge that he (my ex) left my stuff in the house that he was ordered to give me over a year ago, the judge said he doesn't have time to look at it right now, because the court is to backed up.

Sorry, I got on a rant there, but I just want to show you can have the best attorney in the world, but if you can't get in front of the judge, it really doesn't matter. Because after all, the judge has the final say, but if it's all gone what does it matter? Oh, and my ex still has the dog too.
