As teachers, we want to inspire our students to want to do well and to know more about the world around us. We want to continue to teach even when the going gets tough because we have the passion to want to continually add to our students' knowledge and to improve their skills so that they can go on to be lifelong learners.
Even with the stress that is part of teaching, we still have that passion to teach. We see teaching as a two-way relationship, and we enjoy kids as well reaping personal reward and the satisfaction of meeting a challenge head-on.
We teach because we:
1) Always want to learn more about our subject area.
2) Teaching is part of who we are.
3) Want to get better at conveying our lessons, managing our classrooms, and maximizing learning.
4) We want our kids to benefit from our collaboration, even when the process is far more difficult than just doing our own thing.
5) Believe in involving parents throughout the year and to report the positive and the negative.
6) Know we must recognize individual learning styles and this keeps us on our toes.
7) Love to see our students demonstrate their mastery of the instructional material.
8) Care about and enjoy our students.
9) Bring out the best in each of our students and they bring out the best in us.
10)Know how to make a child feel smart.
As teachers, we can positively influence students and colleagues. Most days, we can't imagine doing anything else that is as important as teaching young people. Each day is different and we arrive in our classrooms with anticipation of what each day holds for us.
Teaching is important work and it is a way to have a positive influence on the people around us. No matter what age and grade level or subject we teach we see ourselves as being part of a valuable aspect of society. As society changes, education responds and it is reassuring to know that we are important to that effort to educate and make a difference in the lives of our students.
We know that, students respect a great teacher and, in turn, feel the respect that, we, as teachers, can have for them. Our influence extends beyond a given semester or school year. There are few greater thrills than having former students come back to visit.
We want to teach in order to pass on knowledge and to inspire students to want to learn and be successful. Teaching is a calling and we just had to answer the call.
