Gentleman's guide to keeping his lady happy on Valentine's Day

by Siobhan Fletcher Witt

Created on: June 29, 2008

Making a lady happy on Valentine's Day is fairly simple. Basically, we just want to be remembered as being the love of your life. Doing this is not hard. With a little thought and a little planning, you special lady will feel like she is special to you.

It doesn't have to be expensive. I would rather have a single rose than a big bouquet. A homemade card that a man has created on his own is much better than anything the card companies could ever produce. "I love you because..." will touch a woman's heart more than anything else. Take the time to share your feelings for her. Tell her how you are thrilled you have her in your life. Talk about the plans you have for the two of you. This isn't the time to talk about the bills or where to send your children to college. When talking about your future, let her know you want to be happy and what you will do to make her happy.

If you are going to buy a gift, make sure it isn't an appliance or something to make "her job" easier. Make it romantic and sweet. A dinner out is always nice. No dishes to do, no cooking and women usually appreciate the opportunity to get dressed up and go out. Think of the things she likes and buy appropiately. If she collects something, no matter how silly you might think it is, give her a new addition to that collection.

The nicest Valentine's Day present I ever got was a walk on the beach. My husband took me to the beach, not far from where we lived, and we spent a little time together. We held hands and talked about things we hadn't talked about in a long time. It was wonderful to reconnect. I had become his wife, but I longed to be his girl again. It was like we were dating again, talking about our future and how much we loved each other. He told me how I completed his life and that he couldn't imagine how he could ever truly live without me. He told me how much he appreciated all the little things I did for him and how I touched his heart each and every day. I felt like a million dollars and my husband didn't spend a dime. That was the best Valentine's Day of my life.

Valentine's Day should be about telling that someone in your life that you love them and you are glad they are in your life. Doing that is easy to do. It isn't the cards and the flowers and all the other hype seen on television. Remember that and apply it to your lady this Valentine's Day and you make her happier than you ever expected.
