The Social Life of an American College Student
High school was easy. High school was very clearly defined from the day we walked into the building. Although academia would be present in its walls, it would be the social aspect of high school that makes or breaks you as a human being. In college, you are an adult who is ready and willing to do all you can to make it in the big bad world. It's scary, yet there is a solace in having a social life so that the threat of not making it in the big world will not overcome you. Okay, now that the prelude is out of the way, here it is. College is all about the school. No questions asked. The thing is, while we were in high school, we still believed we were children. Our parents took care of everything, and although we may or may not have had an after school job, high school was cake. Parties, sports, fun, and a little studying. In college a little turns into a lot. Yes, concentrating on your studies will look good on a resume, but you don't want to burn yourself out too soon. College isn't meant for everyone. However, if you could throw some fun into the mix, your college experience will be more rewarding. The first piece of advice is to find something you love, and look for a club involving it. For example, I am a writer. Therefore, I contributed to the school newspaper, the writing club for competitions, as well as other organizations. Let's say you like dancing, but weren't interested enough to make it your major. Okay, there will surely be a club involving that as well. Especially if you attend a large campus and often feel nameless, or lost in the shuffle, joining a club will make one feel appreciated, welcome, and passionate. It will also look good on your resume when you apply for jobs in the future. There are typically organizations to suit everything you could ever want to do. If there's not, go to your Dean of activities and ask to start the club yourself. College students make many friends joining clubs and being part of something that makes your school special. Student activities are great because they give you a break from your studies, as well as allow you to meet people who like what you like. Next there is sports. The reason it is hard to get into a sport is because if you never played in high school, you shouldn't plan on playing in college. Of course, there are other things one could do. If you want to join the football team, go to the coach and ask what you'd have to do. Maybe even being the equipment
