Memoirs of a Woman in Love
We met on a night when the sky was clear and filled with twinkling stars. How do I know this? They were shining in his eyes. The full moon sent a slick sheen of glinting lignt streaking through his hair. He was the most devine of the male specimens I had ever laid eyes upon. I felt a warmth rush through my veins and a shiver down my spine, for love had slapped me across the face, the minute I laid eyes on him. His honey-brown eyes melted the ice that I had built around my heart. His ruby lips looked so luscious on his perfectly shaped mouth, that I longed to kiss it.
While on a visit to South Africa, he and some friends had met a friend of mine. She was meeting me for a drink after work and had invited them along. He smiled at me when we were introduced and took my hand in his. We both flinched when our hands touched. It was as if some sort of mystical power was passed from his body to mine. I saw him flinch and looked into his puzzled eyes, and he looked at me and must have seen the same puzzled expression in mine. Little did we both know then, that we had forged a connection that would last over a span of ten thousand kilometres and, after twelve years, would still be as potent as the day we met.
He sat at my side throughout the evening and I don't remember most of what we spoke about that evening, but I still remember the awareness of his eyes constantly probing me. I don't remember his friends or mine leaving, but somehow we found ourselves alone, walking hand in hand along the moonlit shores of the beach in Durban. Then he turned, and without a word he did what I had been longing to do to him all evening. He kissed me! It felt like I was involved in an earthquake! The sands of the beach shifted beneath my feet, stars exploded behind my closed eyelids and I felt myself begin to fall.
Naturally, Oh! so naturally, his arms encircled me and crushed me to him. The kiss was so passionate and, it left me trembling, awash with so many emotions which I had never felt before. I was astounded by my behaviour, for I had never been so brazen in all my life, but it was as if I had no control over what was happening.
All too soon, it was dawn. I remember us holding hands and watching the sun come up over the Indian Ocean. He turned and kissed me once again as the sun rose, huge and orange, into the dawn sky. Without speaking, we turned and began walking towards his hotel.
"Would you give me your number so that I may call you this evening,"
